Camp Kanga Update!

At the Camp Committee meeting on 23 July 2015, the following replacements, maintenance and anticipated costs were identified:
Wide screen TV to replace existing unit in main dining area. Used for both training and relaxation during camps—$1,800.
Air curtains for access doors to dining area for hygiene purposes. Quoted supply cost $3,900, plus electrical installation.
Replacement hot water system for ablution block—$2,000. (the units in the other two ablution blocks will need replacement in the near future)
Annual test and tag of all electrical equipment. Expected cost $2,500+.
Replacement of all camp smoke alarms. 72 units @ $40 each—$2,880.
Replacement cost of camp utility (now approaching unsafe state) - $2,500??
Installation of donated oven in main kitchen. Quoted price $1,143 plus electrical.
Replace pool table in main dining area.
Replace shower cubicle in manager’s residence.
Replace air conditioner unit and repair ceiling in manager’s residence.
Purchase of a further 10kw of solar paneling plus installation. Currently we have a 30kw inverter, but have only 20kw of paneling, so this will bring the system up to capacity. In the two years since installation of the solar system, the camp electricity billing has remained approximately the same, despite electricity costs escalating by 23% in that time.
The above of course, does not include upgrades to existing cabins and other ongoing maintenance issues around the camp.
The committee is keen to hear from any Club that may be able to assist us with particular items, or with donations to maintain the District’s highest valued asset and a youth camp we can all be proud of.
