Where is Townsville?
Townsville is a city on the north-eastern coast of Queensland, Australia. It is in the dry tropics region of Queensland, adjacent to the central section of the Great Barrier Reef. Townsville, Queensland's largest city outside the Brisbane-Sunshine Coast-Gold Coast conurbation, is 1150 km north of Brisbane, with a 2014 population estimate of 178,649. Considered the unofficial capital of North Queensland by locals, Townsville hosts a significant number of governmental, community and major business administrative offices for the northern half of the state

What is the weather like in May?
Townsville has a tropical savannah climate and very unpredictable rain patterns from year to year. Although close to the tropics, Townsville gets less rain than other areas in the tropics. Winter is dominated by south-east winds and mostly fine weather. Townsville city sits on a coastline the runs east to west, which is different from other tropical towns on the coast that run north to south that get much more rain. Heavy downpours can occur at any time but are usually brief. The winter season mainly consists of warm days and cool nights.
